I have taken the first step towards being ready for the relocation experts to come in and work their magic on ‘m’ day (move day, but I suspect you figured that out). Drum roll…..I had a look around the house and said . ‘OH MY HEAVENS TO MERGATROID’ (yes I say that, and whoops a daisy if the truth needs to be told).
I moved here 11 years ago with 2 suitcases; when I married Sexy Lexy we both moved into our flat with a total of 5 boxes, 2 suitcases; when we moved to our current home 3 years ago we had a small moving truck and bought everything new to fit the design of the house. I have committed to taking only essentials and buying new again – a plan I thought would be straightforward but after looking around it is so complicated.
My complicated mess has me thinking about all the ‘need to have’ items I have purchased over the years, ‘are they needed now?’ and ‘where they ever needed?’ – I cannot help but accept that my entire life I have prided myself on being the person who shuns clutter, only to find that I have clutter in hidden places, behind closed doors and far off places like the loft.
A few weeks ago I asked you to look at your home with fresh eyes, and asked, would you buy it and love it for what it is? If you missed it, read it, enjoy it and find out your answer.
I am now raising the question, ‘if you had to go through the hassle of customs documents, insurance premiums, packing and unpacking IT , would you keep IT or would you simply toss IT?’
3 years ago, these 2 were on my packing list — I suppose they will make the cut again this time.
De-cluttering is a popular buzz word, it is nothing more than getting rid of things that take up space, are unused and unloved. We all de-clutter, some more than others, some not often enough. But we generally de-clutter junk drawers, toy baskets, bookshelves, and other mundane collection spots around the house. Have a look at your unused sections of your home, why don’t you use them? What is there that hinders your enjoyment of the space? Look around your kitchen, do you have wonderful items that you needed to have but then used once and fell out of love with them? How about your sock drawer – how many lonely socks do you have? I could go on and one…you take my point.
What item would you ship? What needed item would you turn your back on given the question raised? I will be spending the weekend answering this very question.
